8 Things I Learned About Michael Phelps, Kobe Bryant, and Man United
Posted by: James In: Social/New Media
So a lot of people out there don’t know what the hell Google Insights is, but at the moment everyone knows who Michael Phelps and Kobe Bryant is (unless you’re living in a cave). So I am going to show you a littel bit of what Google Insights can do by using familar names like Phelps. In a nutshell, Insights is a tool that can be used to figure out what people are searching for, where they are searching from, how often, when they are searching, and what else they are searching for in relation. So… yah… it’s cool.
Here’s what I learned today using Google Insights…
1) Michael Phelps can garner more attention than Manchester United on Olympic months, and
2) He may even get more attention for his 8 Olympic Gold Medals (if he gets there) than Man United did on their Champions League Final

3) People are very interested in the rivalry (former) between Phelps and Ian Thorpe

4) Michael Phelps is as big as Yao Ming (but wait…) ***

5) Man United is bigger than Kobe worldwide

6) Kobe is bigger than Man United in the states

7) but Kobe isnt bigger than “Soccer”

*** China doesn’t use Google! They use Baidu! So Google doesn’t know everything… yet…
So what’s the 8th thing I learned today? To be honest, I only looked into this because of Light the Fu.se (the project I am working on, which will eventually be a place where everyone can share information about global issues). Back to the question though… what’s the 8th thing I learned today…
8) We just don’t care! Well, maybe that is being a bit harsh since there are a lot of things Google Insights cannot help us with (i.e. - age group, education level, etc).
